A Child of My Environment
Macro/Micro: A response to Che Guevara's On Revolutionary Medicine
class: Communication Design 2 . spring 2008 . term 2

We were asked to choose a body of text between 500–3,000 words that we believed would help articulate our own position within media design.

I was asked to create a series of print page layouts that included both the chosen text (macro) and my own written response (micro). The graphic layout was to be designed in tandem to the writings in order to mutually support one another. Our layout parameters were restricted to typography + color + standardized page size.

I chose to respond to an excerpt by Ernesto Che Guevara called, On Revolutionary Medicine. I've liked this speech ever since I first read it as an undergraduate at UCLA. I found this speech so inspiring that I almost headed down the road of becoming a homeopathic doctor. So, when I picked up the speech again for this particular assignment, I realized that it never was about becoming a doctor for me. It was about making life work related to social change. And I believe the media design arena can do that.
